TRAIN PROJECT
Define the Problem
In this project we were instructed to build a toy train. By modeling and assembling 10 parts on inventor we were able to expand our capabilities and potential. This project also required different views of the parts, such as the section, broken, detail and auxiliary, which helps viewers understand the dimensions and how the train was made. Finally the use of tolerances allows variance within the creation of my train.
Generate Concepts
To start modeling I immediately looked on YouTube for helpful tutorials, I knew that if I wanted to build my parts correctly and efficiently within the time constraints this was the best way. I looked over the dimensions and made sure that I followed each part step by step, so that when completed all of my arts would fit together.

When I asked my class mates and family what they thought of my train they all had the same remarks, saying "I love the colors." or "Love the color scheme, it's so cute!" The feedback they gave me made me really happy because I put a lot of time into finding the perfect colors! Also, my parents thought it was very cool how I had programmed the train to move back and forth on the track, they were amazed!
Present the Solution
had a lot of fun in the process of creating my toy train, utilizing YouTube was a major help. I had no problem when I looked over the dimensions and followed the steps within the video, and for the parts that I created by myself I knew if I had any trouble I could look to the videos for help. The only issues I faced were attaching the train to the track but after watching a video I got it! As using the videos helped me create my parts, my dimensions would help someone in the future build my train. For example the full section view and the half section views I used in the stack part and the wheel, help to show interior details and the components of the shapes that are not seen from the orthographic view. The auxiliary view shown in the cow catcher's dimensions show the view on the slanted surface of the object and is perpendicular. For the linkage arm I used a broken view to shorten the object by creating a gap, getting rid of the unnecessary portion of the part, also for the track I used the detail view to enlarge the complex sections. When we dimension holes we use symbols as a abbreviation, because they do not take up as much room on the file and it is also easier to read when you quick glance at it because the symbol mimics the holes shape. Finally utilizing the 4 types of tolerances; general, bilateral, unilateral, and limit helps give an acceptable amount of variation so the objects can function correctly while still having room to move and be assembled. Overall I am very happy with the outcome of my train and had an enjoyable experience bringing the sketches to life.
